![]() SO you can get beautiful wailing, screaming solos in this very clear tone as well as incredible fuzzy and grungy stuff on the hi-gain channels. This preramp allows you to overdrive a clear channel as much as your regular overdrive channels, by effectively increasing the gain at the signal level. ![]() The main thing that I think is awesome is the electronics, the little preamp that occasionally needs to be fed another 9-amp battery or else it will pick up local radio stations and celphone conversations. The other guys have noted, this guitar is extremely potent mojo, and sounds as good or better than most strats, and since I own an American standard also, I can play the same riff with same intonation and settings and find it very hard to tell the two apart. ![]() I own an 83 ivory tele elite that sings like an angel and roars like a #$%^& from hell on command. Submitted at 12:21am by Thomas Addison Smith It's versatile, it can cry and it can scream. With the exception of a PRS Custom and a "vintage" Les Paul (1976), this guitar has the best sound around. I've played Gibsons, Fenders, Ibanez and PRS. I play "classic" rock (Zeppelin, Sabbath, Purple, yadda yadda yadda). I've been playing guitar for for 34 years. 9v battery for active electronics lasts forever and guitar is rock solid I've played strat's and paul's with lower action that didn't allow smooth movement up and down the fretboard. ![]() The action is on the high side, but it is exceptionally playable. Slight buzzing on the G string which went away after I raised the bridge saddle slightly. I have made VERY few adjustments to the guitar in 23 years. I play a lot of Zeppelin and this guitar can hang with a Les Paul. With the Frontman, I have to use both pickups to round out the sound (hey, 8-in speakers will get kinda thin). I also use a Fender Frontman when I'm trying to keep a lower volume. Currently, I play through a Crate G-212 and a Korg AX 300. Boost the mid and you get a humbucker-like sound, or boost the high end to get a single coil. Setting the mid and high control at 5 gives a standard tele sound. The pickups deliver once you learn how to make the adjustments. After 23 years, I can say it definately delivered. I bought this guitar because it promised to have a wide range of sound. Setting the mid and high controle at 5 give a standard tele sound, but you boost the mid to give a humbucker-like sound, or boost the high end to get a single coil. Active electronics give it a HUGE range of sound. Action is on the high side (my preference, strictly rhythm here), over the years, I've had to make few adjustments (bridge is completely adjustable). Maple neck with rosewood fingerboard feels good. It's heavy, which makes it a bitch to wear all night, but it's worth it for the sound. Black, no pickguard and, with the two white pickups, it looks AWESOME. Some one at fender really wanted to make a great guitar. If I could find another one I would Buy it. When Im 65 and playing oldies clubs I,ll wipe it down every night and it will never need anything other than new strings and a tune every now and then. maybe not SRV sound but mostly everything else. Its versatile and flexible and is a bit of a all-rounder guitar. The guy who had this guitar before me was phil emmanuel ( brother of tommy) and he told me it has the best action of any guitar he has ever played. I have been playing for 29 years and have had12 guitars and played many more. If I ever find the right Amp I'll die happy. When you give it some gain it does grow a leg though and can belt it out with the best of them. Its basically a beautiful toned guitar that sounds best unwired. It only needs a clean amp to transfer its tone. none of these amps have suited it perfectly. I have played it for years with a marshall combo. I am using It with a fender super 210 which is not a great amp. This guitar should not fall into the hands of the socially/musically insensitive. You can have your own way if you want it. ![]() The active electronics give you a volume and sound density edge. It gives you an ache on the left shoulder unless you are active. I have nearly dropped it a few times though, the strap knobs could be better. I left it in a case for 18 months and picked it up and played it. I have never needed to replace anything on this. The bridge is perfect for light resting and active damping of the strings, lending itself to country pickin and homemade butter on the bread. Yep, weighs a ton, but a fraction less than a 75 les paul I sold to pay for the wedding. Page: 1 2 (Show 10 | 25 | 50 | 100 reviews per page) Showing 1 - 10 of 16 reviews ![]()
